Big 12 Basketball Championship (known since its inception under a sponsorship agreement as the Phillips 66 Big 12 Men's Basketball Tournament) is the championship men's basketball tournament in the Big 12 Conference. The games have brought some of the most exciting and nail-biting moments to the conference. Founded in 1996, conference play began after the full basketball season was completed in 1997. Seeding is based on regular season records;10 teams, shrinking from 12 teams to 10 in 2012, go head-to head in a single-elimination competition. They battle it out in 5 rounds over a 4-day period, the tournament champion receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.
